4 Ways to Become a Successful Affiliate Marketer

There are loads of ways to earn money online. You can set up a website and sell your products, or you can simply offer a service. In fact, if you’re stuck for ideas check out my post about different ways you can make money online – after reading this of course…:)

As I’ve said a (good) few times on my site, one of the most popular ways to make money is through affiliate marketing.

But if you can’t be bothered to read that (shame on you), the term “affiliate” means someone who advertises another company’s product for them and earns a commission on any sales they generate.

All on the same page? Cool.

This article is about four ways that you can become a successful affiliate marketer without actually having to sell anything.

1. Become a master of traffic generation

In affiliate marketing (or indeed any form of marketing) the most important thing is traffic.

Traffic rules everything. If you can master traffic generation, you’re set for life.

Don’t take my word for it, ask any successful affiliate marketers how they made their money.

Affiliate marketing offers come and go, affiliate networks come and go. Landing page designs and techniques go in and out of fashion, BUT NONE of those things matter if no-one is looking at them.

If an affiliate offer falls over in the wood and no-one is around to hear, does it make a sale? Hell no. (PS feel free to quote me on that – I’m claiming it!)

TLDR traffic is the lifeblood of marketing and affiliate marketing possibly even more than ‘ordinary’ marketing.

Now I know what you’re thinking: “How do I get traffic?” There are hundreds of different ways to do it, I mention a few methods in this post.

Bottom line – choose a traffic method, learn it. REALLY learn it. Master it and nothing can stop you.

2. Create Custom Content in your affiliate marketing niche

Basically, create useful content about a niche that you use as a means to
make a commission by promoting another product as an ‘upsell’ or recommendation.

By putting out a lot of custom content, people see you as an authority on your niche and therefore, a person that they would probably want to buy from.

In fact, you can even make money yourself by selling this content (and keeping 100% of the commissions!) before sending people off to affiliate offers.

This might sound like a lot of work (especially if you don’t know much about the niche you’re looking to promote) but actually, there are some shortcuts 🙂

One way to do this is to create and sell your own ebooks or even a training course by utilising PLR content.

PLR stands for Private Label Rights and is basically content that you have purchased (or downloaded for free) so you can re-brand it as your own.

I know that there are loads of people out there who will disagree with me about the benefits of PLR, but I think it’s great because it allows you to create content without having to do too much work.

PLR packages are a great starting point for anyone starting out in content generation and stuck for ideas.

You can even find PLR packages that contain full video courses that can be easy to sell for a low price (before you hit them with a higher ticket affiliate product).

TOP TIP: Most PLR websites will allow you to download a few products for free as a way to draw you in before asking you for a subscription. Choose what you download for free wisely and you can be setting yourself up for earning commissions without even spending a thing.

3. Give away things for free – lead magnets

Lead magnets are a mainstay in affiliate marketing.

A lead magnet is basically a free product or ebook that you give away in order to get people to enter their details into your email list.

Once they are on your list, you can follow up (again and again…) to promote affiliate offers.

Now, what are you going to give away? PLR of course….See – it all links together 🙂

4. Create a community and make money from promoting affiliate offers to your audience

There are so many social media platforms now, it’s never been easy to create a community. It could be a Facebook group, a forum (yes they are still popular!), a sub reddit a YouTube channel – the list goes on.

Once you have a community together, you can make money by promoting affiliate offers to people in the community.

There is a symbiotic relationship between the members of the community and the people promoting affiliate offers to them.

The members of the community love it because they get great recommendations for products and services, while the people promoting the affiliate offers have a ready-made audience that are willing to take action on what they’re being offered.

Everybody wins!

Summing up

So there you have it -four ways to make money with affiliate marketing.

It might take a while to get going, but once you find a way that works for you (and stick with it) I promise you’ll be seeing profits.

Affiliate marketing is a journey, it doesn’t happen overnight (despite what the YouTube videos tell you), but learn the fundamentals, take action, be consistent and you’ll get there 🙂
